If your growing your hair out it does need a trim. There’s a difference in the term cut and trim. But a trim is also just a cut. BUT , if your growing your hair longer get a 1/4 inch or less cut off. You might want to schedule out longer times between cuts. But do get it ‘trimmed’ just not a lot. It will grow and look healthy when it reaches the length you want.
Hair is supposed to grow 1/2 inch per month. I would say with lots of experience, this is absolutely false. Who makes these things up? I suppose it’s an ‘average’ estimate. My hair grows 1/4 inch a month, I have clients that grow an inch a month, no kidding. If you and your stylist know how fast or slow your hair grows, it will make for a perfect relationship.
Shampoo. It seems the one product that people get so confused about. It is very true that processed, or colored hair needs a specific shampoo. Bottom line is this. Processing your hair with any kind of color opens the cuticle. Lightning your hair opens the cuticle even more. The cuticle doesn’t do well when it’s open. Except for those that like fried hair. The solution then is to close the cuticle up as much as possible. It allows for better color retention and less breakage in colored hair. Shampoos for processed hair should be in the acid/neutral range. Most all professional shampoo for colored hair have these ranges. Shampoo at the drugstore is either alkaline (bad) or really alkaline ( really bad). That is why it’s cheaper. It’s also watered down. That’s what you’re paying for. Nice.
It’s true that you don’t have to wash your hair everyday and it’s false. If your hair and scalp are dry 1-2 days are a good if your hair is oily everyday is needed. Did you know the longer you let your hair go without washing a buildup of dead skin and product happens? It can also cause scalp issues if you don’t wash your hair enough. Believe me, I see this everyday.
Naturally curly hair is cut totally different than straight hair. Curly hair has bounce, if it’s cut with too much tension it will shrink up 1-2 inches. Not kidding. It’s best to get a hairstylist with much experience cutting curls. Trust me, been there, done that.
All hairspray’s are not created equal. Aresol sprays give a lot more volume. Their great to spray all through the hair before curling. Pump sprays are great for short spiky hair, and as a finishing spray. Pump sprays are more concentrated.
Professional products are not the same as drugstore products. The ingredients and the results are different. They may be cheap but that doesn’t mean their good. I understand that some clients don’t want to spend their money on hair products. Ask your stylist for a good alternative, or watch for sales. You’re worth it!
It’s true that we ( hairstylists) make a living selling retail products. It’s part of our income. But it’s also the best for our clients. We know your hair, we know what you want it to do. We work with our products all day. We know what works and what doesn’t. Trust the professional.

Hope this has been informative. I get asked questions everyday, these are usually the most frequently asked questions. If you have any questions about your hair comment below.

Happy Funday Sunday! 💋

This. Week. Wow.

We did it! It’s over. This. Week. Is. Over. I did hilights this week, I did low lights this week, on hair. That is the high of my week. Like my client Vicki, who has the most beautiful hair.

2015/01/img_7653.jpg. Vicki got the flu around Christmas this year, as well as her son. She had to cancel her appointment. I knew it would be a long time before I could get her in. January is my busiest month of the year, I know that sounds crazy, but it’s the truth. So Vicki had to wait five weeks to get her hair done. Who has clients like that? I do. And I wanted to make Vicki’s wait worth her patience. We hilighted and low lighted her gorgeous hair and then curled it with a flat iron. So fun!

I did another clients hair that is growing out from surgery. Lorraine had a skin cancer removed from her forehead. When she came in she was very discouraged, she’s been wearing hats for a few months waiting for her hair to grow back. We cut and hilighted her hair and she is looking great!

On another note, I had a dear client, Paula that had a tumor removed from her brain yesterday. All day I would think about her, I prayed for her every time she came to mind. I was kind of down about her surgery, but I had to work. I had a bride to do. I had to have my game on. Paula made it through surgery. She did it!! Im so proud of her quiet strength and resilience. She had to be awake the entire surgery. And hold still! I can’t imagine!

So back to my bride to be, Shannon. I’ve done her since she was a baby, it seems like yesterday. That is also emotional. Time flies. Here is a sneak peek of our beautiful Shannon.

This week was full. Full of hilights, and low lights. Full of life at its best, and then some. When I knew I wanted to be a hairstylist at the age of five, I had no idea the impact it would have on my life, nor the strength it would take on a day to day basis. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Big Boy Hair – Anderson Style

Would you look at that smile!!
Easton Anderson has the greatest hair. It’s got curl, but not too much. His hair color is very cool too! Easton sits really still and talks to me the whole time he’s getting his hair cut. I love cutting kids hair, I love watching them grow up, but not too fast! Families are my thing.

Such a cool dude!

Mom, Lana, also got her beautiful naturally curly hair hi lighted and cut. I just love her and her hair! And Elin was patient while I did Easton and Moms hair.

Thanks for reading, I love sharing my families with you.

Hope you have a great hair day!

Excuse Me If I Stare…

You have the cutest Hair!!

My client Kim CAN wear short hair. And she wears it well! Not only does she have a gorgeous, natural color, it’s so incredibly thick! Kim has gone from long to pixie, she can wear it all! Don’t we wish?!

Right now Kim is growing the front area out, after having a very short pixie for quite a while. She is doing great, her hair grows so quickly! We used Redken Hardware 16 Super Sculpting Gel and Biolage Matte Pliable Paste, and finished with Kenra Spray. Love the finished look!

Biolage Advanced Haircare

So excited that Biolage has come out with a sulfate free line of shampoos, conditioners and treatments.

Matrix Biolage has come out with a new line of sulfate free, paraben free, and salt free shampoo and conditioner. Salt can be deadly for people with curly hair, it swells the cuticle and poof! Kind of like what it does to my body after Mexican food! I have used Pureology shampoos and conditioners exclusively for about 5 years. All the Pureology Haircare line is sulfate free. As a result my clients color retention is better. I want the best on my clients heads! Downside is it’s expensive and I get that. It’s hard to spend $25-$30 on shampoo and conditioner!
I am really excited that Biolage has come out with this line! It’s cheaper than Pureology and in my humble opinion just as good or better! I just want them to come out with a Volumizing shampoo.

Keratindose is for overprocessed hair. You know hair like mine that is hi lighted a LOT! Love this shampoo. The smell is the same as the regular Biolage shampoos.

Fiberstrong is for weak, fragile hair. If used as a system, it will fill in the gaps in the cuticle of the hair and make it stronger. Wish I could use it on my body!

Repairinside is for damaged breaking hair. Fortified with Soy + Arginine. It helps repair dry, damaged hair.

All of these systems come with a deep conditioner, yay! And the Fiberstrong and Repairinside smell divine! They are different from the original Biolage line.
Hope you take great care of your hair and hope you have a good hair day!
