If your growing your hair out it does need a trim. There’s a difference in the term cut and trim. But a trim is also just a cut. BUT , if your growing your hair longer get a 1/4 inch or less cut off. You might want to schedule out longer times between cuts. But do get it ‘trimmed’ just not a lot. It will grow and look healthy when it reaches the length you want.
Hair is supposed to grow 1/2 inch per month. I would say with lots of experience, this is absolutely false. Who makes these things up? I suppose it’s an ‘average’ estimate. My hair grows 1/4 inch a month, I have clients that grow an inch a month, no kidding. If you and your stylist know how fast or slow your hair grows, it will make for a perfect relationship.
Shampoo. It seems the one product that people get so confused about. It is very true that processed, or colored hair needs a specific shampoo. Bottom line is this. Processing your hair with any kind of color opens the cuticle. Lightning your hair opens the cuticle even more. The cuticle doesn’t do well when it’s open. Except for those that like fried hair. The solution then is to close the cuticle up as much as possible. It allows for better color retention and less breakage in colored hair. Shampoos for processed hair should be in the acid/neutral range. Most all professional shampoo for colored hair have these ranges. Shampoo at the drugstore is either alkaline (bad) or really alkaline ( really bad). That is why it’s cheaper. It’s also watered down. That’s what you’re paying for. Nice.
It’s true that you don’t have to wash your hair everyday and it’s false. If your hair and scalp are dry 1-2 days are a good if your hair is oily everyday is needed. Did you know the longer you let your hair go without washing a buildup of dead skin and product happens? It can also cause scalp issues if you don’t wash your hair enough. Believe me, I see this everyday.
Naturally curly hair is cut totally different than straight hair. Curly hair has bounce, if it’s cut with too much tension it will shrink up 1-2 inches. Not kidding. It’s best to get a hairstylist with much experience cutting curls. Trust me, been there, done that.
All hairspray’s are not created equal. Aresol sprays give a lot more volume. Their great to spray all through the hair before curling. Pump sprays are great for short spiky hair, and as a finishing spray. Pump sprays are more concentrated.
Professional products are not the same as drugstore products. The ingredients and the results are different. They may be cheap but that doesn’t mean their good. I understand that some clients don’t want to spend their money on hair products. Ask your stylist for a good alternative, or watch for sales. You’re worth it!
It’s true that we ( hairstylists) make a living selling retail products. It’s part of our income. But it’s also the best for our clients. We know your hair, we know what you want it to do. We work with our products all day. We know what works and what doesn’t. Trust the professional.

Hope this has been informative. I get asked questions everyday, these are usually the most frequently asked questions. If you have any questions about your hair comment below.

This. Week. Wow.

We did it! It’s over. This. Week. Is. Over. I did hilights this week, I did low lights this week, on hair. That is the high of my week. Like my client Vicki, who has the most beautiful hair.

2015/01/img_7653.jpg. Vicki got the flu around Christmas this year, as well as her son. She had to cancel her appointment. I knew it would be a long time before I could get her in. January is my busiest month of the year, I know that sounds crazy, but it’s the truth. So Vicki had to wait five weeks to get her hair done. Who has clients like that? I do. And I wanted to make Vicki’s wait worth her patience. We hilighted and low lighted her gorgeous hair and then curled it with a flat iron. So fun!

I did another clients hair that is growing out from surgery. Lorraine had a skin cancer removed from her forehead. When she came in she was very discouraged, she’s been wearing hats for a few months waiting for her hair to grow back. We cut and hilighted her hair and she is looking great!

On another note, I had a dear client, Paula that had a tumor removed from her brain yesterday. All day I would think about her, I prayed for her every time she came to mind. I was kind of down about her surgery, but I had to work. I had a bride to do. I had to have my game on. Paula made it through surgery. She did it!! Im so proud of her quiet strength and resilience. She had to be awake the entire surgery. And hold still! I can’t imagine!

So back to my bride to be, Shannon. I’ve done her since she was a baby, it seems like yesterday. That is also emotional. Time flies. Here is a sneak peek of our beautiful Shannon.

This week was full. Full of hilights, and low lights. Full of life at its best, and then some. When I knew I wanted to be a hairstylist at the age of five, I had no idea the impact it would have on my life, nor the strength it would take on a day to day basis. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Have a great weekend everyone!

MIRABELLA Anyone?

IMG_5064-0.JPG

I have been curious about MIRABELLA Makeup every time I go to my Beauty Supply. First of all I tend to not like the makeup in beauty supplies. I never like the quality, it seems cheap and overpriced. Second, I am not familiar with some of the brands.

I have tried this brand for the last few months. I must say that I’m surprisingly impressed with the quality and staying power. MIRABELLA is an excellent brand that lives up to the hype.

This eyeshadow is a gorgeous copper color, it is a spongy texture that is easy to apply with just a finger. It dries to a powder finish that does not crease, and it stays on until you take it off! That’s my kind of eyeshadow! I don’t want to reapply all day, just once is fine with me.

There is also a mineral based highlighter. It’s a light pale shimmer. No glitter at all!

IMG_5078.JPG

There are two new lip glosses. They are long lasting, and just feel great and super moisturizing on your lips. And the company states they have antioxidant protection and anti-aging properties. I say, bring it on! We all need a bit of anti-aging!

Favorite Cream Shadows

IMG_4671.JPG

Cream Shadows are dreamy. They last a long time, on the eye and in the pot, just be sure to close them tight! To me they are worth their weight in gold. You get your money’s worth. Cream shadows come in many different price ranges. Maybelline Color Tatoo is a great affordable brand that works great, and comes in beautiful colors.

As promised I’ve swatched some of my favorite colors and brands.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream Waterproof cream color in 11. Basically a metallic light bright gold color. It IS waterproof!

Diorshow Fusion Mono Long Wear Eyeshadow in Millenium 381. This is a gorgeous silver color, very sheer. You can wear alone or accent other shadows.

Givenchy Ombré Couture 16 hr. Hold waterproof cream shadow in Kaki Brocart 6. I am so impressed with these. They are affordable, wearable colors, not metallic. Basically matte with a bit of shimmer. I will do a post on these alone!

MAC Electric Cool Eye Shadow in Cork.
This is such a fun texture. As you can see where my finger has been, these are very cushy, and soft. This one has a lot of glitter, so I don’t wear it for day. It’s a gorgeous copper color!

MAC Chilled Fluidline . Thanks to my friend Maria Pia of http://www.ifmakeupcouldtalk, I bought this. It is a great color for the inner corner of your eye and as an accent color with other shadows. Maria has a post on her website that shows this great color in action.

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Sparkle Shadow/Liner in Sunlit Bronze 4. This is a very sheer bronze with sparkles. Because it’s so sheer the sparkles are not too much. This is a beautiful warm bronze color!

Chanel Illusion D Ombré in Embouil 86. This is a gorgeous plum, great for blue eyed beauties! You can’t go wrong with Chanel.

Diorshow Fusion Mono Long Wear Eyeshadow in Meteore 661. This is just a gorgeous gold color, I use it as an accent color. Love that it has shimmer but it doesn’t get all over your face! These are so creamy and last forever.

Smashbox Limitless 15 hr. Wear Cream Shadow in ICON. This is the most versatile shadow. I use it as a liner, or just apply it straight to my lid with my finger. It’s a beautiful warm brown that literally lasts until you take it off!

Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream Waterproof in 15. It is a shimmery taupe color. You can definitely wear this alone because it is so pigmented. MUFE cream shadows are quickly becoming my favorite! They are affordable and come in gorgeous colors.

I hope you enjoyed the swatches. Cream shadows are a great investment, fun to work with and last all day!!

Have a great Monday!

Sunday Smokey Eye

Lately my inspiration for eye makeup looks comes from a Instagram friend, Maria Pia of http://www.ifmakeupcouldtalk.com.
Maria is so talented at applying makeup and doing great step by step tutorials on her blog.

IMG_4402.JPG
This is a picture from Maria’s blog of her smokey eye look. She is absolutely gorgeous with it, don’t you think?!

I used every product Maria did in this look except the base, cheek and lip color. Even though I am blonde and blue eyed, and Maria is Italian and dark eyed, these colors work on both of us!

IMG_4398-0.JPG
My iPhone camera is not as good as Maria’s! But hopefully you can see the finished look.
Head on over to http://www.ifmakeupcouldtalk.com, scroll down to the heading, Smokey Eye Toturial. You will see the products used and how to get this great smokey look and learn a lot in the process!

Thanks for reading and have a blessed week!

Big Boy Hair – Anderson Style

IMG_4029.JPG
Would you look at that smile!!
Easton Anderson has the greatest hair. It’s got curl, but not too much. His hair color is very cool too! Easton sits really still and talks to me the whole time he’s getting his hair cut. I love cutting kids hair, I love watching them grow up, but not too fast! Families are my thing.

IMG_4030.JPG

Such a cool dude!

IMG_4144.JPG

Mom, Lana, also got her beautiful naturally curly hair hi lighted and cut. I just love her and her hair! And Elin was patient while I did Easton and Moms hair.

Thanks for reading, I love sharing my families with you.

Hope you have a great hair day!
